Care Homes

Traditional Scottish Music for Care Homes and Daycare Centres

The beneficial effects of music on those suffering from dementia and similar conditions are well known.  (Age UK highlights this in the report referenced at the bottom of this page.)  Having completed a short dementia training course with Fife Sport and Leisure Trust, Bernie Hewitt is able to offer sessions of live traditional Scottish music to Care Homes in and around Fife.

These sessions have Bernie playing well known Scottish tunes on the accordion (think “White Heather Club” and you will not be far off the mark). He also provides large-print song sheets for familiar Scottish songs (eg Mairi’s Wedding, the Skye Boat Song) and usually includes a musical quiz in each session. These quizzes are based on music from the past, and it is not uncommon for residents in care homes to do better at them than their carers.

Bernie is registered as an entertainer on the EAC Housing Care website.   Here is a link to his entry on there:  "Bernie on the Box"
There's also a link from there to a short video made by a firm of solictitors who sponsor some of these gigs.

If you would like to discuss what is on offer or arrange a session, please contact Bernie using the Ceilidh Craic phone or email.
